The CNX is a robust unit designed to withstand the conditions on a construction site. Built with three bands of LED lights to indicate noise exposure action levels (Red, Amber, Green).
Winner of the Corporate Demolition Innovation Award at the 2014 National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC) Demolition Awards.
Your local council have the power to control noise from construction sites under their Control of Pollution Act 1974, and the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which can include a limitation on working hours. This has the potential to have disastrous implications to meeting deadlines, so it is vitally important to keep control of site noise levels.
For Environmental Noise Nuisance, place the CNX 360° at your site boundary to monitor sound levels and provide an immediate indication of whether you have noise nuisance issues.
For Noise at Work Health & Safety, place the CNX 360° in the vicinity of noise sources, ideally a similar distance away from the sound source as the operatives (microphone may be detached). Ensuring the CNX 360° is in view shouldn’t be difficult thanks to it’s 360 degree display, clearly informing employees when wearing PPE hearing protection is required. Simple switch between A and C weighting parameters for Environmental Noise Nuisance and Health & Safety respectively.
For noise nuisance applications the best position is at the boundary of the site being monitored, ideally in an area that has no walls or obstacles in the immediate vicinity. However, if the objective is to warn workmen, then a location near the source may be necessary in order to be visible. On a site with multiple noise sources of similar level, then only monitoring at the boundary will be effective. The microphone may be dismounted from the CNX 360° with it’s bracket, and using a microphone extension cable mounted up to 30 metres from the main unit. Care will be needed to ensure the microphone extension cable is not damaged and does not present a hazard.
For health and safety applications the CNX 360° will be located in the vicinity of the noise source that is being monitored and set to “A” weighting. Ideally the microphone should be positioned the same distance from the sound source as the operatives (the microphone and mounting bracket may be detached from the main unit and using an extension cable, mounted up to the 30 metres from the CNX 360°). A typical setting will be 80dB or 85dB with an “”A” weighting, the 80dB(A) limit being the lower exposure legal limit and 85dB(A) being the upper exposure legal limit
With the CNX 360° set at 85dB(A) – If the red LED’s are continuously alight, the 85dB(A) limit is exceeded and hearing protection must be worn. If the red LED’s are regularly alight, the average level will be just below 85dB(A), hearing protection must be worn. If the red LED’s light occasionally, then the 85dB(A) limit is being approached, workers should be prepared to take action.
