Acoustic Calibrators for Field Calibrations

In order to provide a constant response from a meter or instrument it is important to check that meter before and after each use

Calibrators provide quick and simple ways to ensure a meter is continuing the measure and function as expected. Castle Group can supply and number of different calibrators for different instruments including both single level and dual level noise meter calibrators.

Benefits of carrying out field calibrations with an Acoustic Calibrator

Being able to carry out calibration on site carries a whole host of benefits. Administration, carriage, and calibration fees are saved, whilst self calibration allows measurements to be taken immediately as there is no turnaround time like there inevitably is with sending equipment to a calibration service.

To remain compliant, most sound meters must be calibrated in a laboratory or calibration house every 12 months

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) has issued a guide (LAB23) on calibration of Sound Meters and Calibrators in which it states recommended calibration intervals for various types of equipment, some of which are listed here:

  • Personal Dosemeters - 1 year
  • Microphones (Reference and Working) - 2 years
  • Sound Meters (tested to BS7580, where applicable) - 2 years
  • Sound Meters built to IEC 61672:Part 1 - 2 years
  • Sound Analyser for Building Acoustics Work - 2 years
  • All other Sound Meters - 1 year
  • Acoustic Calibrators (Mechanical or Electronic) - 1 year
